During a recent match at Croesyceliog, a team who have been told to look after their own green, the enormity of the task became evident with members having to spend a minimum of 3 hrs per week just mowing the green.
Running repairs were being carried out on an adjacent rink which took a member the full 4 hours to complete.
With all the good will in the world this work is being undertaken by untrained, non qualified personnel. We can all mow a lawn, but a sporting playing surface is a different matter, problems need to be spotted early and dealt with correctly. fertilizers and weed killers are another expense and another recipe for disaster if not carried out correctly.
Preparing and maintaining a bowling green is a full time commitment and i fear clubs will sink if members are unwilling to commit.
