The council have announced their plans to ease in self management of the bowling facilities to the clubs. The blow came and, for most, was a lot better than expected as the changeover is to be phased in over a period of 5 years with more and more responsibility being devolved to the clubs year on year.
My guess is that now the ice has been broken there will be an acceleration in the process and greens, pavilions and surrounding grounds will now be quickly dropped by councils.
This is nothing new to some clubs who have clubs and bars and have been self sufficient for many years, but it will come as a massive upheaval to the majority of clubs.
This will test a club's resolve and commitment and mark my words that we will see a fall in the number of clubs registered in the Caerphilly borough. Committees are now going to have to be a bit more than just hard workers (if you have them) but will now need to think as business people.
So exciting times indeed where it will be the survival of the fittest and will be the making of some clubs but alas the demise of others.
